APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions, with six extrusion presses and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 300 people. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and Phoenix Arizona, APEL serves the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States.

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and Corporate HR Manager, the HR Manager is an integral member of the APEL Human Resources team and is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Phoenix people plan throughout the employee life cycle. This person will work directly with employees and leaders across Phoenix and the APEL HR team.

Job Responsibilities

Efficiently and accurately work with managers and payroll to compile the bi-weekly payroll information.

Maintain document and file compliance.

Conduct investigations and manage employee relations issues.

Communicate and respond to employee and/or manager questions to help resolve questions regarding local policies/procedures and documentation.

Support EHS: Workers Compensation, OSHA reporting, Incidents.

Prepare & distribute various HR reports (Headcount Tracking, Turnover, Call off Tracking, etc.).

Remain abreast of and provide guidance on local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations and statutes governing equal employment opportunity practices, location and APEL policies and practices.

Prepare internal employee communications & assist with policy development as needed.

Assist with the development and implementation of an employee training/development system.

Assist and deploy engagement and retention processes.

Provide backup HR support across APEL as needed.

Complete transactional tasks in the HRMS (Paycor) and other systems.

Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Firm understanding of employment laws.

Strong ability to help resolve employee questions and concerns.

Strong computer skills, able to learn and navigate new systems easily.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products.

Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail, thorough in completing work tasks and a sense of urgency.

Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Strong initiative, ability to anticipate issues proactively.

Critical thinker, active listener, and effective time manager.

Proven track record of reliability and responsibility.

Discreet, able to manage confidential and proprietary information.

Basic Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Management, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field.

7+ years of human resources experience or any combination of education and experience.

Strong background in employment law and policy development.

Strong Organizational Development and HR Generalist background.

Preferred Qualifications

Fluency in Spanish; highly desired.

Manufacturing environment experience.

Society of Human Resource Management SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification.
