Role Purpose The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and must exemplify BJC’s standards of customer service, compassion, and professionalism. This role involves facilitating all aspects of patient entry into BJC facilities, requiring emotional intelligence, professionalism, and the ability to make personal connections. Responsibilities include accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection to maximize reimbursements and prevent denials, while ensuring patient safety through correct identification in the Master Patient Index (MPI). A friendly demeanor, attention to detail, and knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and regulatory standards are essential. Responsibilities Use critical thinking to solve problems, anticipate patient needs, and respond appropriately. Communicate professionally and positively with patients, families, and staff in person, online, or by phone to ensure a positive patient experience, accurate billing, and compliance. Perform hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems, ensuring proper patient identification, insurance verification, document scanning, and order validation. Provide patients with preparation instructions, financial education, and collect payments. Understand and enforce hospital compliance with regulations such as Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Advance Directives, EMTALA, and JCAHO standards. Ensure HIPAA acknowledgments are completed. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices. Minimum Requirements
