Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic specializing in Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmissions, Cummins products, and other heavy‑duty vehicle systems. The Second Shift Diesel Mechanic will perform diagnostics, repair, and maintain diesel engines and components used in various vehicles and diesel equipment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently during evening hours.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on Freightliner trucks, Detroit Diesel engines, Allison Transmissions, Cummins engines, and other heavy‑duty equipment.
Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks, to ensure vehicle reliability.
Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot complex engine and transmission problems.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance performed using fleet management software.
Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Collaborate with the first shift team and supervisors to prioritize repair schedules and maintain workflow.
Keep the workshop clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols.
Stay updated on the latest industry technologies, tools, and repair techniques for Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison, and Cummins products.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years as a Diesel Mechanic, with specific expertise in Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmissions, and Cummins products.
Certifications:
ASE certifications (T2‑T8 series preferred) or equivalent. Manufacturer‑specific certifications (Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison, or Cummins) are a plus.
Skills:
Proficient in diagnostic tools (e.g., Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link, Cummins Insite, Allison DOC).
Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, transmissions, and heavy‑duty vehicle components.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively during the second shift.
Education:
High school diploma or GED; technical school or vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
License:
Valid driver's license required; CDL (Class A or B) preferred but not mandatory.
Other:
Must provide own tools (specialty tools provided by the company).
Work Environment
Work primarily in a shop environment with occasional outdoor tasks.
Exposure to noise, fumes, and heavy machinery; adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
Second shift schedule requires flexibility for occasional overtime or weekend on‑call rotational work.
