About the Team and Role

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost to our customers. The Data Center Global Controls team seeks exceptional individuals to join our Controls organization as a Controls Technician for Service & Construction of the Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) within Amazon data centers.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Deploy, service, and upgrade BMS and EPMS systems across multiple data centers.
  • Mentor and train Facilities team members on operation and control of the BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Audit, maintain, and manage computer enterprise asset management systems for BMS and EPMS installations.
  • Manage small to medium size projects and programs.
  • Perform point‑to‑point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
  • Conduct first‑line diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of programming code and hardware for BMS and EPMS.
  • Provision and configure servers, controllers, industrial PCs, and network configurations; test communication with third‑party devices.
  • Install, replace, configure, and calibrate sensors.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and control panel drawings; understand close‑loop controls, field sensor scaling, and industrial controller functions.
  • Supervise low‑voltage electrical contractors performing wiring and device installation in compliance with AWS requirements.
  • Support commissioning and systems‑level testing.
  • Create red‑lined drawings and documentation of systems.
  • Follow the change‑management process to generate work requests and method of procedures.
  • Participate in factory‑witnessed tests at vendors or panel‑builder facilities.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the manager.
  • Recommend design improvements based on user consultation and system operation.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
  • Ensure all on‑site personnel utilize proper safety methodology.
  • Work on‑call and on a rotating schedule; respond to after‑hours emergencies.
  • Monitor and review ticketing systems, perform root‑cause analysis, and prioritize tasks.
  • Manage service agreements, including vendor labor scheduling, quality assurance, and invoice review.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk job sites on uneven terrain, at heights, and from ladders.
  • Use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl regularly.
  • Lifting or moving up to 49 pounds occasionally; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting issues and conducting root‑cause analysis.
  • Strong attention to safety and ability to follow detailed procedures.
  • Experience with mission‑critical 24×7 operations.
  • Experience managing work and priorities via a ticketing system and coordination with a manager.
  • Supervise low‑voltage electrical contractors.
  • Commissioning and systems‑level testing support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in operations and on‑call support for data center facilities, mission‑critical plants, or production facilities.
  • Experience with device technologies under development, flashing firmware, basic device debugging, and reading/pulling device logs.
  • Knowledge of critical data center electrical and mechanical systems (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air‑handling units, CRAC).
  • Experience with network troubleshooting tools (telnet, test‑netconnection, tracert, tracetcp, iperf, ntttcp, dig, packet capture tools) or automation, version control, Linux, and networking protocols.
  • Knowledge of system controls.
  • Configuration and calibration of sensors.

Compensation

The base pay for this position ranges from $61,700 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $138,100 per year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon may provide equity, sign‑on payments, and additional compensation as part of a total compensation package.
