Hourly Salary Range: Heavy Equipment Operator: $22.06 - $32.54 / Senior Heavy Equipment Operator: $24.32 - $35.86

Flexible classification – qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on experience, education, and training as determined by the hiring authority.

Description

This position operates light and heavy equipment to perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the solid waste area.

Responsibilities

• Operates solid waste heavy equipment (front-loaders, roll-offs, side-loaders, rear-loaders, skid steers) and street maintenance equipment (jackhammers, drills, paving and troweling machines, concrete mixers).
• Completes commercial or residential collection or sweeping routes, uncontained solid waste collection, and support service duties.
• Performs daily routine inspection of the heavy equipment before and after use, reporting any mechanical issues.
• May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Requirements

Experience

• Heavy Equipment Operator: One (1) year of heavy equipment operation.
• Senior Heavy Equipment Operator: One (1) year of street maintenance heavy equipment operation.

Work experience should meet or exceed the stated minimum. Education does not substitute for required work experience; related unpaid or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying experience.

Education

• Both levels: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Professional Licensure and/or Certifications

• Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Tanker Endorsement.

Additional Requirements

• Criminal history review.
• Post‑offer/pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
• Post‑offer/pre‑employment physical examination.
