THE CENTER FOR PROGRESSIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY
(“CPP”) invites applications for the position of “Psychologist & Postdoctoral Fellow” for 2026-2028. This is a two-year post-doctoral fellowship that will provide training in contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy. This position is ideal for an early career psychologist looking to gain experience in a private individual and group practice setting and looking to expand their knowledge of psychodynamic psychotherapy under supervision with an experienced psychodynamic clinician.
Postdoctoral fellows will have access to choose from one or more of the following tracks: 1.
Generalist track
– deepen and refine your clinical work with adult patients in both individual and couples therapy through advanced study of psychodynamic theory and technique coupled with supervision to help you better apply these concepts through long-term insight-oriented psychotherapy 2.
CBT-I
– learn to treat insomnia with the highly effective CBT-I protocol 3.
Executive Coaching
– supplement your clinical work by learning to provide Executive Coaching services to clients wanting to focus on their career
We will hold two
virtual Open House Events

The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy
was established in 2015 and is dedicated to providing high quality, contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy to individual adult patients and couples. Reflecting the diverse population of New York City, we treat patients of all identities and cultural backgrounds. We treat a full range of emotional and behavioral symptoms, personality disorders, and dual diagnosis amongst an adult population. As of 2025, we have a team of ten clinicians including five full-time postdoctoral fellows. We continue to offer both in-person and virtual sessions for our patients. We are located at 37 West 20 th

Dr. Randy Nolte, Psy.D.
is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Training Director of The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy. Dr. Nolte has graduate degrees from New York University and The George Washington University as well as over 15-years of clinical experience providing patients with psychodynamic therapy. Dr. Nolte created CPP with the following mission: Provide patients with specialized, high-quality treatment that is grounded in psychodynamic theory and technique, Provide greater access to individual patients and couples, Provide psychotherapy to ALL patients regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, and ability, Create a space for patients that is safe, accepting, and free of judgment, To practice ethically, Educate, mentor, and supervise clinicians towards realizing their professional goals and objectives, Create a space for clinicians that is supportive, safe, accepting, and encouraging, And, finally, to foster connection and healing!
Requirements : Ph.D or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, and completion of a pre-doctoral internship, Must be eligible for a Limited Permit in New York state (please note that eligibility for a NYS Limited Permit requires the completion and defense of one’s dissertation), Limited permit holders will hold the title of “Psychologist & Postdoctoral Fellow,” A two-year full-time commitment, 35-hour work week including a caseload of 25 patients, Must be able to work a mixture of “early” and “late” shifts between the hours of 8am and 8pm, Must be able to work in-person from our office in Chelsea, NYC four days per week, Though not required, preference will be given to applicants who can work Saturdays, One hour of individual supervision, one hour of secondary supervision, and two hours of seminar/group supervision per week, Applicants must be comfortable working with diverse presentations, multicultural issues, and LGBTQ+ concerns.
Compensation & Benefits : Salary: Year 1: $86,000 total ($60,000 base salary + up to $26,000 bonus) Year 2: $96,000 total ($70,000 base salary + up to $26,000 bonus) * This is intentionally NOT a fee for service position; that arrangement does not reflect our organizational commitment to providing consistent financial, educational, and staff resources to this position. This position offers employer-sponsored health insurance, This position includes 10-days paid time off and 13-days of paid holidays, This position offers 401k retirement savings with employer contribution, This position is consciously designed as a 35-hour per week schedule to encourage work/life balance for our staff as well as other personal and professional pursuits, Malpractice insurance is provided by CPP.
By the end of these two years , applicants can expect to: ·
Have a full caseload of patients, ·
Have developed a reliable referral source, ·
Have a deeper understanding of psychodynamic theory and technique as applied to a diverse patient population, ·
Know how to run their own private or group practice including marketing and advertising, working with insurance companies, supervising, and billing and accounting, ·
Have a greater sense of self-confidence and competency as a mental health professional working in a private practice setting, ·
Pursue opportunities for growth within The Center for Progressive Psychotherapy after the completion of the two-year contract should they wish.
