Solid Waste Maintenance Technician I – Snohomish County, WA
Join Snohomish County Public Works as a Solid Waste Maintenance Technician I. This role offers a full‑time position focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing solid waste equipment and facilities. You will work at modern solid waste facilities and will have access to industry‑standard tools, vehicles, and protective wear. An opportunity to obtain a welder’s certification from the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) is also included.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair solid waste gas, water, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform complex maintenance and repair work independently or with assistance from assigned personnel.
- Use steel welding and cutting techniques to fabricate and repair metal parts.
- Perform general carpentry tasks to build and maintain structures and plumbing work to repair broken pipes.
- Fabricate wood and metal structures using arc welder, wire feed welder, plasma cutter, and oxygen/acetylene torches.
Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience operating a variety of equipment or hand/power tools in building maintenance or industrial mechanical work.
- Six (6) months of experience or familiarity with steel welding and cutting; or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
- Proficiency in general mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, and steel cutting and welding knowledge.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- First Aid/CPR Card within 6 months of employment.
- Successful completion of reference and background checks.
Work Schedule & Training
Monday – Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. After two (2) years, promotion to Solid Waste Maintenance Technician II is possible with required training.
Selection Process
