Collection Maintenance Supervisory Librarian
Zimmerman Associates, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Collection Maintenance Librarian to support our major government library in Bethesda, MD. The qualified candidate will have 3 years of experience in managing a physical collection, overseeing shifting and weeding projects, and updating bibliographic records in a large government or academic library. Professional experience must include writing detailed plans, instructions, and documentation.
Responsibilities
Develop procedures and update associated training documents
Train and delegate tasks for the collection maintenance team of four technicians
Preserve delicate collection items through rehousing and relocation
Identify and route items to the conservation team for repair or boxing
Administer space planning projects that reallocate space, including via collection compression and deaccessioning
Weed duplicate materials to ensure maximum space availability
Implement collection relocation projects comprising over 4,000 linear feet of shelving
Identify oversized materials and oversee reshelving to make them more accessible
Increase accessibility through integrated library system (Alma) record maintenance by providing detailed enumeration and chronological descriptions, correcting holdings records, ensuring barcode and label accuracy, and updating item statuses to maintain item history
Maintain statistical reports and provide project updates
Qualifications
Master's degree in library science and information studies (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution
2-3 years of professional experience with primary responsibility for managing a large library collection
Experience supervising a team of library technicians in a Technical Services department of a large library, including providing verbal instructions and training
Strong knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system
Physical Requirements
Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to 35 pounds \ Must be able to stoop and lift materials from the ground and bottom shelves
