Job Description And Duties Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineering, Supervisor (Construction Electrical Engineer, Branch Chief), the Transportation Engineer, Electrical (Transportation Electrical Engineer) performs a wide variety of professional electrical and electronic engineering duties in support of the Traffic Safety & Operations Division—Transportation Management Center (TMC) within the Electrical Construction Branch. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and inspection of electrical and electronic systems used in transportation management and traffic operations.
As the incumbent progresses in experience, assignments become progressively more complex and may function as a lead person over the activities of various electrical and electronic engineering and technical personnel.

Special Requirements
Appointment to Range D requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Appointment to this position requires passing the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) Applicants must also submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for this position.
Failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may not be considered and may result in disqualification for the interview.
Resumes and cover letters will not take the place of the SOQ.
The SOQ must follow the number format, must respond to the criteria below, must not exceed two pages in length, and be typed in size 11‑point Arial font.
Describe your knowledge and experience in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. Provide examples of previous projects you have participated in or led.
Provide examples that demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with team members, contractors, and other agencies. Include your experience in preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations.
Describe your experience using Computer‑Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), computer applications, and other engineering tools.
Describe your experience analyzing electrical engineering issues or field inspections and developing solutions. Explain the steps you took and describe the outcome or impact of your solution.
