Job Summary The Clinical Specialist at Arizona Center for Cancer Care (AZCCC) is responsible for coordinating biologic therapies, prescription refills, and prior authorizations to ensure timely patient access to treatment. This position also supports clinical operations by managing pathology logs, handling medical assistant line calls, processing faxes, and assisting with scheduling and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates all aspects of biologic therapy management, including benefit verification, prior authorization, and refill tracking.
Manages and maintains accurate tracking of all patients receiving biologic therapies.
Processes and reviews prescription refills and prior authorizations for medications in a timely manner.
Supports the management of the pathology log by contacting patients with results, scheduling follow-up appointments, documenting in the EMR, and communicating treatment expectations.
Assists with outgoing referrals to ensure continuity of care.
Manages incoming and outgoing communications professionally and courteously, ensuring timely follow-up.
Prioritizes appointment urgency and schedules patient visits in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Obtains complete and accurate demographic and insurance information during patient registration.
Documents all patient interactions accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Collects patient payments and co-pays as required, maintaining accurate daily accounting records.
Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously, using professional etiquette and ensuring messages are complete and properly routed.
Checks voicemail messages regularly and returns all calls before lunch, mid-afternoon, and prior to the end of the workday.
Sends appropriate records, calls, and messages to physicians for review and follow-up.
Sorts and routes incoming faxes such as imaging results, record requests, and refill requests.
Sends medical records releases to referring offices, documents all requests, and scans relevant correspondence into the EMR.
Demonstrates professionalism and composure when managing difficult patients, maintaining a high level of customer service.
Identifies and resolves issues proactively to ensure efficient clinic operations.
Maintains working knowledge of medical terminology, EMR systems, and HIPAA regulations.
Performs additional duties as assigned by management to support daily operations.
Identifies opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and communicates recommendations to the Practice Administrator or Clinical Manager.
Performs other related duties as assigned to support clinical operations and enhance the overall patient experience.

Qualifications / Education Requirements
General Education diploma or higher required
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or equivalent certificate, diploma, or degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
1 year plus of experience working in a physician office, specialty pharmacy, or healthcare coordination role.
Ability to demonstrate familiarity with dermatology, rheumatology, or other specialties utilizing biologic medications.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Licensure and Certifications
CPR certification required.
Successful completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by A.A.C. R4-16-101 preferred.
