External Relations at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the role of Associate Director for Annual Giving and Engagement, Community Health Foundation (CHF). Position Summary
The UVA Community Health Foundation is dedicated to supporting UVA Health’s mission of transforming health and inspiring hope for all Virginians and beyond by expanding vital care to families throughout Northern Virginia. Donors to the Foundation provide essential support to UVA Health’s three community hospitals and an integrated network of clinical practices and outpatient clinics in the Northern Virginia and Culpeper regions. The Associate Director for Annual Giving and Engagement will have primary responsibilities which include discovery work with prospective donors, face-to-face and/or virtual annual fund solicitations, management of the UVACH employee giving campaign, event planning and fundraising, and donor stewardship.
The Associate Director will report to the Executive Director of UVA Community Health Foundation and will work collaboratively with colleagues in UVA Health Development (UVAHD) to ensure coordinated efforts.
This candidate will use prospect referrals, data‑mining and research to identify prospective donors, and conduct outreach. They will work to build a portfolio of engaged individuals who support UVA Community Health medical centers and strategic priorities. In addition, they will coordinate the launch of an annual employee giving campaign. Fundraising metrics will guide efforts and accountability.
UVA Community Health Foundation is the beneficiary of annual and one‑time events of which the proceeds benefit our programs and services. The Annual Giving and Engagement Officer will coordinate volunteer and sponsorship efforts, assist volunteer committees with event planning and day‑of details, and ensure appropriate donor recognition. They will collaborate with UVA Health Development to ensure adherence to event and policy guidelines.
Responsibilities
Build multi‑year relationships with donors in an effort to solicit, steward, and increase annual gifts in the $1,000–25,000 range.
Manage a portfolio of annual giving prospects and donors, and identify potential major gift donors.
Facilitate introductions of major gift prospects to the UVACH Executive Director.
Determine best practices for an employee giving campaign.
Solicit sponsorships for events benefiting UVA Community Health Foundation.
Digital Solicitations
Serve as primary liaison for Community Health Foundation with UVA Health Development’s Director of Strategic Engagement (DSE).
Provide approved story ideas and focus areas.
Attend meetings and coordinate with the UVA Community Health marketing and communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding, and to help publicize Foundation activities.
For specialized fundraising needs, coordinate with DSE to align calendar and solicitation audiences.
Develop competency with online giving platforms to maximize revenue and streamline workflow.
Event and Volunteer Management
Coordinate UVACH fundraising and stewardship events (e.g., golf tournaments) in partnership with the UVACH Advancement Associate and UVA Health Development’s Director of Strategic Engagement (DSE) utilizing established policies, practices, and protocols.
Manage volunteer committees for UVA Community Health Foundation fundraising events.
Ensure consistency with UVAHD third‑party event policy and practices.
Coordinate with the UVA Foundation’s Director of Gift Administration and follow all required policies around receiving, receipting and acknowledging event funds.
Internal & Administrative Responsibilities
Serve as a liaison to Senior Associate Director of Stewardship on required stewardship reports.
Lead and/or assist with other projects as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in non‑profit, fundraising, or event planning.
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Salary Range
The anticipated hiring range is $60,000–70,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location
This is an exempt-level, benefited position.
This is a restricted position, dependent on funding availability.
This hybrid position is based in Culpeper, Manassas, or Warrenton, Virginia and must be performed from one of these locations. Applicants must reside in or near one of these areas to be considered.
