Customs Entry Writer – Boston, MA
Altius Talent | Freight Forwarding Recruitment is looking for an experienced Customs Entry Writer to join our Boston brokerage team. The ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years of entry‑writing experience, preferably in the beverage, wine, or spirits logistics sector. This position is responsible for accurate and timely preparation, transmission, and follow‑up of customs entries in accordance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) regulations and applicable FDA and TTB requirements.
Base pay range: $55,000 – $70,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and file customs entries for air and ocean imports in compliance with 19 CFR and other CBP regulations.
Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and arrival notices for completeness and accuracy.
Classify products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and determine appropriate duties, taxes, and fees.
Manage FDA Prior Notice submissions and monitor for CBP or PGA holds and releases.
Support beverage imports under the
Craft Beverage Modernization Act (CBMA) , ensuring proper allocation and documentation.
Coordinate with importers, carriers, warehouse staff, and other internal teams to ensure timely cargo release and delivery.
Maintain accurate entry records and support post‑entry actions (PSC, protest, refund).
Communicate effectively with clients regarding entry status, compliance concerns, and documentation needs.
Assist in audits and compliance reviews, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of customs entry writing; beverage, wine, or spirits industry experience strongly preferred.
Education:
Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with ACE, ABI, and entry systems (Descartes, or similar); strong working knowledge of CBP, FDA, and TTB import procedures; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Soft Skills:
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities; attention to detail and a compliance‑driven mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with bonded warehouse, FTZ, or excise‑tax exempt imports (a plus).
Familiarity with alcoholic beverage import compliance documents and details (COLAs, TTB IDs, etc.).
