Director, University Foundations Program Location:

Boise State University seeks a Director to lead the General Education (University Foundations) program, a signature undergraduate curriculum that engages every undergraduate student. The Director will develop, implement, and assess the program, collaborate with colleges, supervise staff, manage resources, and contribute to university and state general education policy.

Level & Scope Directs a large, complex organization with multiple functional disciplines. Provides strategic vision, formulates policies, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and influences senior leadership decisions.

Essential Functions

Leadership (20%)

– Provides strategic direction, builds internal and external support, engages stakeholders, and serves on the First Year Focus Coordinating Council.

Program Development, Implementation & Assessment (30%)

– Collaborates on course design, supports faculty, oversees administrative student issues, sets schedules, and reviews evaluations.

Engagement with Governance (25%)

– Leads the University General Education Committee, engages at the State Board level, and supports assessment of learning outcomes.

Staff & Resource Management (15%)

– Supervises staff, manages the program budget, and collaborates on staffing strategies.

Teaching (5%)

– Instructs one course per academic year and models effective teaching practices.

Other Duties (5%)

– Performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrated interest in student learning and the undergraduate experience.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience with curriculum design, course development, and assessment.

Commitment to inclusive, effective learning spaces.

Record of professional contribution across disciplines.

Evidence of inclusive teaching in general education courses.

Collaboration across colleges to support general education.

Experience teaching courses with broad learning outcomes.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

Effective general education teaching practices and strategies.

Leadership across campus community and faculty governance.

Support for faculty to become effective teachers.

Understanding of general education trends, generative AI, and online student service.

Experience supporting transfer students and articulation agreements.

Supervisory experience supporting staff development.

Experience with faculty governance and program design.

Experience managing program budgets.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Six years of university teaching experience.

Two years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate or terminal degree.

Four years of university administrative/leadership experience.

Salary & Benefits Salary range: $118,500 – $130,000 annually.
