Power Plant (OMT) Mechanical Maintenance Technician The North Tonawanda Cogeneration facility, located in North Tonawanda, New York, is a 55‑megawatt combined‑cycle cogeneration plant. It features a GE Frame 6 gas turbine generator, an HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator), and a GE steam turbine generator, supported by essential auxiliary equipment. The facility provides reliable power to the surrounding region.

Opportunity Summary As an OMT Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you maintain, repair, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, fans, compressors, and turbine components. You support plant upgrades, metal fabrication projects, and monitor auxiliary systems. Your work ensures safe, reliable operations through preventive maintenance, spare‑parts inventory management, and adherence to safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical issues, implement solutions, and restore safe operation.

Repair, replace, dismantle, and inspect plant equipment (pumps, valves, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors, turbine components).

Perform piping and conduit installations for system upgrades, ensuring compliance with plant standards.

Operate fabrication tools (drill press, milling machine, pipe‑threading machine, grinder, welding equipment) to build or repair parts.

Manage combined‑cycle power‑generating equipment with minimal guidance, coordinating with plant management.

Read and record data from meters and gauges (temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, water chemistry). Verify operating conditions.

Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing packing, gaskets, and lubricating parts.

Participate in the preventive maintenance program using the CMMS and collect trending information.

Assist in spare‑parts inventory and physical inventories.

Adhere strictly to all safety and environmental rules.

Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.

Qualifications

Associate degree in Power Plant Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or related field (preferred). Equivalent training or relevant experience accepted.

Experience in power‑generating facility maintenance, preferably as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or similar role.

Solid understanding of power plant operations, preventive and predictive maintenance, and balance‑of‑plant equipment.

Proficiency in assembling, disassembling, adjusting, aligning electrical and mechanical equipment, and experienced with mill‑drill presses, welding, and rigging tools.

Ability to read and interpret meters, gauges, and instrumentation for monitoring temperature, vibration, pressure, water chemistry, and related data.

Strong teamwork, communication, and reporting skills.

Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, work from elevated platforms, and lift up to 50 lb. Work may require confined spaces, exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, high temperatures, and noise. Protective equipment may be required; respirator fit testing possible. Smoking restrictions apply.

Compensation Base pay $33–$45 per hour plus an annual performance bonus.
