Position Overview Are you an experienced Compliance Assistance Specialist, ready for a unique opportunity to grow with an environmental state agency? Join TCEQ! We bring passion and drive to carry out our mission of protecting our state’s public health and natural resources.
As part of TCEQ Compliance and Enforcement, you would help ensure that those we regulate comply with the state’s environmental laws.
Location Amarillo regional staff.
Responsibilities
Assist small businesses and small local governments in understanding and complying with environmental rules.
Work on special project teams developing plain‑language regulatory guidance documents and tools to aid in understanding and complying with environmental rules.
Cooperatively work with agency program staff (e.g., permitting, enforcement, regional investigators, etc.) and stakeholders to ensure work products are meaningful and consistent with agency priorities.
Assist in conducting outreach on environmental compliance requirements, including preparing outreach materials, planning, and conducting workshops and giving presentations.
Review rules, regulations and agency guidance and analyze the impacts to small businesses and small local governments and provide recommendations and justifications for improvements.
Qualifications
Required Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field.
One year of full‑time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to communication infrastructure, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. The ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is required.
A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials is required if needed to meet the qualifications listed above.
Current TCEQ Employees This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist II‑IV state classification.
Work Schedule Standard business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Amarillo Region Office.
