Description Sign-on Bonus:

A $2000, $3000, or $4000 sign on bonus is available depending on the position and qualifications of the selected candidate.

The foster care social worker provides specific services to children and their parents/guardians/caretakers when children are removed due to substantiated abuse, neglect, or dependency. They provide counseling and case management services and assist families with accessing support to help members learn appropriate behaviors, find safer housing, and make better decisions regarding the child's care and discipline. The goal is to establish a safe, permanent home for maltreated children. On‑call duties are part of this position.

Employee provides direct social work services to children and families after removal from home due to serious abuse, neglect, dependency, or voluntary out‑of‑home care. Occasionally, children are placed in the agency’s custody by a juvenile court judge following a juvenile criminal matter or civil custody dispute.

Employee analyzes situations, determines appropriate courses of action immediately after removal, assists families in accessing community‑based support, and resolves family problems. They conduct comprehensive evaluations of family strengths and needs, ensuring that all service providers and the family work toward a permanent plan. Concurrent planning is required in all cases.

When the permanent plan is not reunification, employee identifies an appropriate alternative permanent plan.

When adoption is the permanent plan, employee is familiar with the adoption process and prepares the child for the termination of parental rights (TPR) process.

Employee must create thorough documentation as required by policy, including contacts with children, parents, placement providers, and collateral contacts. Other assessments, visitation, and case planning tools must be completed as required. Employee maintains data and prepares statistical reports.

Employee provides vital information and recommendations to the court in writing and verbally regarding the child's needs, based on the permanent plan. If required, they testify in termination of parental rights hearings, delinquency and commitment hearings. Safety considerations are always taken into account.

The employee must apply Child Placement policy and time frames, ensuring a permanent plan is established within one year of placement and that court reviews are conducted timely. They understand social work theory, techniques, and practices, and are skilled in crisis intervention and treatment of medical/mental illnesses.

Employee participates in the Permanency Planning Action Team (PPAT), meeting monthly to assess cases and recommend services or changes to permanent plans.

When assigned, the employee may complete home studies for placement purposes, conduct background checks, and recommend placing families. Monitoring of placement may be required. Testimony in court may also be required.

Minimum Education And Experience Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); or Bachelor's degree in social work and one year directly related experience; or Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; or Bachelor's degree in a human services field and two years directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.

Directly related experience

is defined as human services experience in case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho‑social therapy, and treatment planning. Official transcripts must be included with application.
