Medical Scheduler – Columbia, MD (On‑site)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 9:00 AM–5:30 PM
Pay Range: $16.00–$18.00 per hour (based on experience)
Contract‑to‑Hire | 6‑Month Duration
Position Summary We are seeking a detail‑oriented Medical Scheduler to join a busy medical office in Columbia, MD. This role is ideal for candidates with strong communication skills and experience in healthcare scheduling. You’ll play a key role in coordinating patient appointments, managing front‑office operations, and supporting clinical staff to ensure smooth and efficient patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Answer incoming calls, assess caller needs, and direct to appropriate personnel.
Schedule new, returning, and referred patients in the EMR system according to physician guidelines.
Cancel or reschedule appointments based on physician availability and notify relevant staff.
Enter insurance authorizations and referral documentation into patient records.
Collect co‑pays, deductibles, and other out‑of‑pocket payments at time of visit.
Maintain physician scheduling templates including meetings, satellite visits, and call coverage.
Coordinate financial counseling for patients when needed.
Prepare memos, forms, and correspondence as requested.
Schedule outpatient tests, procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions as needed.
Obtain pre‑certifications and communicate prep instructions to patients.
Follow up on pre‑operative tests and ensure patients are cleared for surgery.
Schedule post‑operative follow‑up appointments and communicate with patients and providers.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to clinic policies and compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
0–3 years of experience in a medical office setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Epic or other EMR systems.
Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance verification.
Basic understanding of medical coding and scheduling procedures.
