Airport Civil Engineering Practice Lead

Florida . We are looking for an experienced leader to spearhead civil engineering projects across airports statewide and regionally.
Location Florida – Southeast Region
Overview As the practice lead, you will build and maintain relationships with airport authorities, develop strategy and oversee implementation of federal, state, and locally funded airport improvement programs. You’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with FAA and state design standards, and drive business development to grow the practice.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage business relationships to secure work on all types of airports.
Lead strategy and implementation of federal and state‑funded airport improvement projects, as well as locally funded initiatives at public and private airports.
Create contract specifications and bid estimates.
Coordinate engineering design staff and other disciplines to meet project objectives.
Collaborate with other Volkert disciplines to cross‑sell aviation‑related services across the Southeast Region’s footprint.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.
Registered Professional Engineer with the Florida Board of Professional Engineers or ability to obtain registration within three months.
Design experience on FAA and State DOT aviation projects.
Business development experience.
Ability to hire, manage, and motivate staff.
Existing relationships with airports in Florida.
Project management experience covering grant facilitation, design, bidding, construction administration, and close‑out.
Track record of compliance with airport master plans, federal grant assurance, FAA and state design standards, and project scopes.
Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars for airport design and construction—runways, taxiways, aprons, grading/drainage, pavement markings.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency with general office equipment, MS Office, and engineering software.
Pass a pre‑employment drug screening and a post‑offer fit‑for‑duty evaluation, as applicable.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle report.
