Job Summary Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. Produces images of internal body tissues to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy and cancer. Supervises and mentors ultrasound personnel and maintains equipment and records.
Education and Work Experience
Diploma/certificate from an ultrasound college or school: Required
Licenses/Certifications
ACR accredited sonographers must be certified and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics (OB) or Vascular (RVT); or Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI‑RVS); or registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography (S) or (VS) within one year of hire: Required in CA and HI (models preferred).
Basic Life Support (BLS or HS‑BLS or RQIBLS) certification: Required
Facility Specific License/Certifications
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS) or ARRT‑Vascular Sonography (ARRT‑VS) or ARRT‑Sonography (ARRT‑S): Required
Essential Functions
Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high‑frequency sound waves and capture quality images of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology for physician use.
Provides direct patient care by assessing condition, positioning patients, preparing for procedures, monitoring vital signs and intervening when necessary.
Maintains accurate records, billing information and patient images in accordance with HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations.
Prepares rooms and patients for subsequent procedures and verifies equipment status before daily use.
Performs other assigned job‑related duties.
