Contract Position Overview Our client, a leading financial regulatory organization, is seeking a
Systems Administrator III (AIX/Unix)
to support enterprise-level infrastructure operations across its nationwide network. This position offers an opportunity to work on secure, large-scale systems that are critical to national financial and payment operations. The role will begin as remote, but candidates within commuting distance to one of the 12 Federal Reserve cities are preferred in case onsite work becomes necessary. Key Responsibilities Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of
AIX/Unix operating systems and clustering components Configure and manage
LPARs, PowerVM, and NIM-based OS installations Automate system lifecycle activities (installation, patching, configuration, monitoring) using
Ansible, Python, and Unix shell scripting Administer
firmware upgrades, user/group management, SSH/SFTP, SUDO, LDAP, and NFS Configure and support
network components
(Ethernet, VLANs, TCP/IP, vSwitches, SEAs) within AIX and VIOS environments Monitor and tune system performance; perform troubleshooting and issue resolution Apply analytics on historical incidents and patterns to predict and proactively prevent issues Participate in
Agile (Scrum/Kanban)
environments to deliver system enhancements and automation initiatives Work both independently and collaboratively to identify, track, and resolve operational and infrastructure issues Required Skills and Experience Minimum
8 years of professional experience
working with
Unix Operating System technologies
(AIX preferred) Expert-level knowledge of: AIX LVM, LPAR profile creation/configuration, PowerVM administration AIX OS installation via NIM
and system configuration NIM administration and automation , Power Systems firmware upgrades Proficient in automation/orchestration tools such as
Ansible, Python, Shell scripting , and Agile methodologies Strong understanding of: Network concepts (VLANs, TCP/IP, vSwitch, SEAs) NFS client/server administration, SUDO configuration, LDAP client management Experience with
performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting
in AIX environments Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with
PowerHA clustering
and related high-availability configurations Experience supporting
networking and storage technologies
in large-scale enterprise environments Prior exposure to
regulated or government infrastructure
environments Schedule and Work Details Initial work schedule:
Monday–Friday , transitioning later to
Tuesday–Saturday
or
Sunday–Thursday Remote to start;
occasional onsite work
may be required in the future Long-term contract with potential for
