Job Details:
• 12-hour shifts with 4-hour orientation plus unit-based training
• Every other weekend required
• Call required as needed
• Day/evening patient ratios: 5:1 (stretch 6-7), Night ratios: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10)
• Float required within scope of practice
• 1 year of recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience required
• First time travelers accepted
• BLS certification required
• PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience preferred
• EPIC charting system experience required
• NY license required in hand to submit
• Navy blue/white scrubs required
• Pre-start modules required (up to 10 hours total, first 5 hours billable)
• Manage patients with acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis, pulmonary fibrosis, and ILD
• Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, CBI, hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central/PICC line care, starting IVs, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, substance withdrawal care, surgical drains, ventilated patient care, chest tubes, CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, isolation precautions, and wound care
• Work with special equipment including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, chronic ventilators, tracheostomy equipment, and chest tubes
• Manage Amiodarone drips
• Participate in rapid response team activations

This healthcare facility operates a 20-bed Med Surg Telemetry unit with comprehensive support services including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries. The facility maintains patient care technicians on all units who handle vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living, plus an in-house phlebotomy team for peripheral lab draws. The organization focuses on providing acute care for patients with complex medical conditions requiring telemetry monitoring and specialized nursing interventions.
