Lead Plant Operator (NIGHT)

– Airgas Location:

Deer Island, OR – Dry‑ice production facility.

Job Summary:

Lead Plant Operator (NIGHT) responsible for overseeing daily loading, packaging, and shipping of dry ice, ensuring quality and safety standards are met, and supporting plant operations during night shifts.

Responsibilities

Team lead over daily loading and packaging of dry ice according to quality standards.

Coordinate with Assistant and Plant Manager to meet shift production requirements.

Assist in training and coaching junior operators or trainees.

Provide input to the Plant Manager for evaluating production associates.

Identify and communicate safety hazards and quality deficiencies.

Operate forklift and/or pallet jack to maneuver and load dry ice boxes on production floors and trailers.

Comply with all safety and quality policies and procedures.

Enter delivery ticket information into the computer system.

Perform cleanup tasks as required, including sweeping, washing, painting, trash removal, and pick‑up.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

Work may require standing, stooping, crouching, or bending.

Work Environment

85% in the production area (warm in summer, cool in winter). Requires personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and gloves when handling dry ice.

15% office work for data entry.

On‑call and shift work required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.

Two to five years experience in a production/manufacturing environment.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Self‑starter capable of directing work teams to meet production demands.

Knowledgeable in operating plant equipment such as block press, saws, packaging machines, pelletizers, valves, etc.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient with data entry and production software systems.

Certified forklift operator.

Available to work overtime and unsupervised hours as needed.
