Job Description WSP USA is seeking an
Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering . This position can be based out of Irvine-CA, San Diego-CA, Portland-OR, and Seattle-WA.
Provides engineering support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, inspection of port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector, including piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products that meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
Assist with the development of project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and provide input on mitigation activities.
Write technical reports, generate complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work, collaborating with other engineers and multidisciplinary teams on federal, state, regional, and locally funded projects.
Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Complete all assigned trainings.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
0 to 1 year of experience; prior engineering internship experiences.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with others, express ideas effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software and tools, and fundamentals including statics and logical problem-solving. Analytical mindset with sound judgment.
Experience with AutoCAD, SAP2000 and similar tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience with exposure to ports and marine structures (including rehabilitation and new design).
EIT Certification.
Experience with REVIT, MathCAD, and other similar software.
Member of or active participation in local professional practice organizations.
Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design/build processes.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $56,300 – $92,900. WSP USA reserves the right to pay within the posted range or beyond, depending on applicant qualifications and location.
