TITLE : Girls Hockey Assistant Coach
SCHOOL OVERVIEW
Breck School is a preschool through twelve, coeducational college preparatory, Episcopal day school located in Golden Valley, Minnesota, with a national reputation for excellence and achievement in academics, athletics, and the arts. POSITION OVERVIEW The Assistant Hockey Coach is responsible for providing visionary leadership for the Hockey Program. The Assistant Hockey Coach is responsible for helping the Head Coach manage the day-to-day operations of the program, including recruiting within the school and development of individual team members. The Assistant Hockey Coach is required to abide by rules and regulations of; the NFHS, the MSHSL and Breck School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of athletes in Hockey.
Coordinate the development and promotion of the Hockey Program across the school community.
Work with other Hockey coaches together toward a common goal within the Hockey Program and provide unity across all levels and teams.
Help the Head Coach with decisions regarding performance criteria for competition and evaluate player’s athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing basis.
Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
Use the allotted days by the MSHSL in June and July to provide athletes the opportunity to do Hockey specific training.
Encourage and support multisport athletes within Breck School.
Assist student athletes with college recruitment.
Act as a team representative and promote the sport within and outside the Breck community.
Participate in special activities to include parent meetings, senior night, banquets, etc.
Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or other appropriate administrator.
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE Three years of experience coaching Hockey at the high school level.
Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (MSHSL, etc.), opponents, staff, parents, and athletes.
COMPETENCIES
Possess excellent organizational, communication, delegation, and interpersonal skills.
Be an effective and timely communicator, both in written and oral form.
Maintain appropriate documentation.
Displays good judgment, time management, and an ability to prioritize.
Represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.
