Position Description The Facilities Division performs maintenance across more than 25 miles of boulevards, 465 parks (including 26 community centers, 4 swimming pools, 4 golf courses, a stadium and 4 environmental education centers). This position, primarily working the 3rd shift (Nights), 8:30 PM–7:00 AM Monday–Thursday on a 4/10 shift schedule, provides direct supervision to crew chiefs and personnel in a variety of crafts and trades. Responsibilities include planning, dispatching, supervising crews, managing budgets, scheduling preventive maintenance, coordinating projects, and ensuring quality service to the public.
Job Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, dispatch, supervise, and review the work of crews in various trades.
Set clear work standards and evaluate performance to ensure quality and efficiency.
Manage and oversee facilities operations and maintenance across multiple buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.
Provide leadership and oversight over complex, multi‑site facilities operations and maintenance activities.
Analyze labor costs, develop cost estimates, monitor expenditures, and prepare unit budgets to support section‑level budget planning.
Supervise scheduled preventive maintenance programs for community centers, swimming pools, playground equipment, and other public facilities.
Direct the scheduling and prioritization of tasks for a large, multidisciplinary team working across a complex campus or remote locations.
Coordinate with crews to carry out building alterations, remodeling projects, and repair work.
Respond promptly to emergent facility‑related issues across a wide geographic area.
Organize, estimate, execute, and monitor projects while serving as a liaison between teams and stakeholders.
Inspect buildings and equipment to identify operational issues and recommend maintenance, repair, or remodeling solutions.
Minimum Qualifications Six years of facilities operations and/or maintenance experience, including at least two years as a lead worker or supervisor in construction, remodeling, or structural maintenance of buildings or HVAC systems; or physical plant engineering experience. Substitution: up to three years of college‑level education in civil, construction, electrical, industrial, mechanical, physical plant or related engineering is allowed on a one‑for‑one basis, except for lead experience.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize maintenance tasks effectively.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience with multiple skilled trades groups.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
At least one year of experience in HVAC, fire safety, pool or automated control systems, electrical, or plumbing.
High motivation, strong teamwork, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, automated work‑order systems, and related software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.
Commitment to safety standards and on‑the‑job hazard management.
Leadership skills with a professional, courteous interaction style.
Willingness to work flexible hours to support operational needs.
License, Certification, and Other Requirements
Current Washington State driver’s license or equivalent mobility evidence.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Office‑based work with periods of standing, walking, and lifting during inspections.
Potential on‑call, overtime, and off‑hours emergency work.
Respirator clearance fit test may be required per business needs.
Additional Information The full salary range for this position is $55.32 to $64.43 per hour.
