Maintenance Director (Asheville, NC)

Bus Company Holdings US, LLC (dba Coach USA) is a motorcoach transportation company seeking a full‑time Director of Maintenance. The position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience, or three (3) years with an associate’s degree or higher education, and relevant training and certification. The Director of Maintenance directly oversees and coordinates all aspects of the Maintenance Department, managing a team of shop mechanics, wash bay cleaning staff, and a parts manager while overseeing a fleet of deluxe motorcoaches. The ideal candidate will have recent experience in the transit sector outside of Asheville, demonstrate excellence in fleet maintenance, and have experience in commissioning new transit vehicles and managing vehicles that have reached their useful life. This position reports directly to the VP of Maintenance.
Responsibilities and Duties
Manages the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all commercial vehicles
Understands and applies US DOT and OSHA regulations
Coordinates work schedules for technicians and cleaners
Tracks equipment for service and preventive maintenance using industry-specific software
Tracks and codes invoices
Serves as on‑call for mechanical emergencies and breakdowns
Reviews work orders, assigns tasks, and verifies quality of work through audits
Schedules work based on routine preventive maintenance inspections
Maintains a safe and productive work environment
Troubleshoots and evaluates options to determine the best course of action
Hires, develops, and disciplines employees
Works with the Safety Manager to promote safety and ensure compliance with all regulations and company policy
Participates in all audits, both internal and external
Applies analysis of projects and coordinates accordingly
Required Skills/Qualifications
Must have a CDL, Class B license, or the ability to acquire one with passenger and airbrake endorsements
Transportation-specific certifications (e.g., ASE, manufacturer’s certifications, brakes, A/C, etc.) are a plus
Supervisory experience preferred with strong people‑management ability
Ability to lead and work independently as well as in a group environment
Must comply with current traffic and driver safety regulations and all applicable Federal, State, DOT, and local regulations
Moderate computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Working knowledge/experience in electronic diagnostics
