Position Summary
This position will define portfolio strategy, oversee complete lifecycle management from product development through commercialization, and serve as the strategic voice of the customer across the organization. This role is responsible for combining vision with hands‑on execution, translating market insight into innovative product offerings that address critical research needs in multiplexed immunoassay and proteomics applications.
Duties And Responsibilities
Product Strategy and Portfolio Management
Define and execute product strategy and roadmap aligned with company goals and market opportunities in key therapeutic areas including Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Metabolic Disease, and Infectious Disease
Balance portfolio innovation with operational excellence to maximize market share and profitability
Build business cases for new product offerings and portfolio expansion, including financial modeling and market sizing
Monitor product performance, market trends, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities
Own full profit and loss (P&L) responsibility for the consumables product portfolio
Market Insight and Voice of Customer
Partner with field‑based commercial teams (account managers, field application scientists, and scientific affairs directors) to capture insights from pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic customers
Gather market intelligence through conferences, scientific publications, and competitive analysis
Lead voice of customer research initiatives to inform product strategy, requirements definition, and customer journey optimization
Translate complex customer needs into actionable product requirements and positioning strategies
Product Development, Launch, and Lifecycle Management
Collaborate with Research & Development (R&D) to define product requirements, specifications, and performance metrics
Develop differentiated product positioning and pricing strategies within the multiplexed immunoassay and proteomics landscape
Drive product launch excellence through go‑to‑market strategies, sales enablement, and training programs
Own commercial success metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Define and analyze KPIs to monitor performance, forecast demand, ensure supply continuity, and manage product transitions
Competitive Intelligence and Market Positioning
Conduct competitive product analysis and maintain awareness of competitive strategies
Develop tactical responses to direct and indirect competition
Identify whitespace opportunities and unmet needs within target markets
Cross Functional Collaboration
Lead cross‑functional teams across Assay Development, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive successful product development programs
Partner with Global Sales Management/Marketing to develop targeted marketing programs, sales training, and account strategies
Collaborate with Sales, Scientific Support, Customer Service, and Finance to optimize business performance
Serve as the strategic product voice in executive discussions and business reviews
Team Leadership and Development
Build, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of product managers
Provide coaching in product strategy, market analysis, financial forecasting, and pricing
Foster a culture of innovation, customer‑centricity, and data‑driven decision‑making
Experience And Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field.
A degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or molecular biology preferred.
Advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of ten years of product management, commercial, or strategy experience in the life sciences, diagnostics, or biotech
Significant responsibility for consumables business with demonstrated P&L impact
Direct experience with products or applications in one or more of the following therapeutic areas: Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Metabolic Disease, or Infectious Disease
A minimum of five years of people management or team leadership experience
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Proven track record of successful product launches and portfolio growth
Strong understanding of immunoassay technologies, proteomics platforms, and pharmaceutical/biotechnology research workflows in target therapeutic areas
Mastery of strategic planning, lifecycle management, position, pricing, and go‑to‑market execution with ability to translate customer needs into commercial outcome.
P&L ownership experience with proven ability to build, mentor, and lead cross‑functional teams and drive business results
Exceptional written and verbal skills with ability to influence diverse audiences and translate complex technical concepts into meaningful, understandable contexts and messages, regardless of the format (e.g., documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.)
Strong critical thinking, financial modeling, and data‑driven decision‑making capabilities with experience in market research and customer insights
Self‑motivated, collaborative, and results‑oriented with adaptability in fast‑paced environments and creative approach to identifying opportunities
Ability to travel (20‑25%) with flexibility for occasional work outside normal business hours
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. This position may require occasional travel up to 20%.
Work Environment This position is performed in a standard office environment, remote or hybrid model.
Compensation Summary The annual base salary for this position ranges from $174,100 to $272,100. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non‑discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company’s overall success.
