Job Title Senior DB2 DBA
Location and Employment 12 month+ Contract · 100% Remote
Job Summary Senior database administrator responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and troubleshooting of IBM DB2 z/OS databases and supporting systems. Provides 24/7 support for critical production environments.
Required (must have)
10+ years professional experience as a systems DB2 z/OS Database Administrator on V11+.
Strong working knowledge of Operational/Systems DBA roles for mainframe systems.
In-depth knowledge of DB2 z/OS architecture and installation, configuration, and upgrade procedures.
Experience with Netezza Performance Server database administration.
Proficiency opening and working with IBM support cases.
Experience configuring and supporting Tier‑1 mission‑critical databases as a systems/infrastructure DBA.
Hands‑on experience with z/OS operating system, capacity planning, and architecture design for database server deployment.
Experience with multi‑terabyte database platforms, including analytics workloads.
Good understanding of data warehouse concepts, data marts, and data lakes.
Routine maintenance of several database environments, including application of updates, patches, and hotfixes.
Creating databases and migrating objects from non‑production to production environments.
Designing data models, schemas, views, and tables to support application requirements.
Working knowledge of database security mechanisms, data encryption, obfuscation, and auditing (e.g., Guardium).
Extensive experience designing and executing backup and recovery processes.
Database performance measurement, troubleshooting, I/O bottlenecks, and SQL tuning.
Experience with monitoring tools (Nimsoft, Dynatrace, Datadog, or similar).
Knowledge of licensing options and optimization.
Experience in scripting (shell, Python, or Perl) and automation tools such as Control‑M.
Knowledge of IT industry database technologies and business applications integrated with database technologies.
Ability to provide 24 × 7 support to critical production systems.
Experience with project management methodologies.
Collaborate closely with application development teams to resolve performance issues and provide application support.
Experience with DB2 tools, JCL, and performance monitoring (Omegamon).
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or equivalent work experience.
Preferred
DB2 zOS Database Administration Certification.
Knowledge of DB2 LUW and Sailfish administration.
Health care industry related experience.
