Join to apply for the Scientific Writer role at City of Hope. The role is based at the Beckman Research Institute, where the mission is to develop innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting‑edge research.
Base pay range $39.00/hr - $60.00/hr
We are looking for a Scientific Writer to prepare high‑quality written materials for inclusion in grant applications and publications. Responsibilities include preparing data tables, figures, study schematics, conference posters, and reference libraries. You will also draft SOPs, IRB & IACUC applications, study calendars & protocols, and other research‑related documents. In addition, you will serve as a project manager, navigating the regulatory review process for each research study, shepherding manuscripts through the submission & revision process, and ensuring that the supervisor or faculty members are apprised of the status of their ongoing projects. This role reports to the Director, Scientific Affairs.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Write, edit, proofread R01 and R01-like grant proposals, scientific manuscripts for peer review, clinical study protocols, or other scientific documents for faculty, research fellows, and students.
Collect, manage, and analyse research data.
Conduct literature reviews, write clear and concise synopses, and maintain reference libraries.
Assist investigators and research team with responses to IRB, IACUC, IND, MTA, FDA and other committees that require careful wording.
Remain current on literature in the field and cutting‑edge tools/resources relevant to writing and graphical design, video editing, plagiarism detection, journal selection, etc.
Your qualifications should include:
PhD in biology, biochemistry, or another life science OR Master’s degree with 3+ years of scientific writing experience in a healthcare research or academic environment.
First‑author manuscripts listed on CV.
Grant writing experience and any experience with tissue protocol writing.
