Project Overview Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid‑scale, mixed‑refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River. There are five identical process plants, each comprising a gas pre‑treatment unit, a condensate stabilization unit, and four chart heavy hydrocarbon (HHC) removal and liquefaction groups. The facility will include associated utilities, refrigerant storage, three 235,000 m³ full‑containment LNG storage tanks, and three marine berths.

Job Summary The Building Field Engineer will report to the Lead Building Field Engineer/Area manager. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical assistance, direction, and support to field supervision for construction and installation activities across all Building disciplines. Responsibilities include work planning, packaging, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection, testing knowledge, coordination of system turnover, and subcontractor management at site. The role ensures field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities

Overall construction knowledge of permanent building construction and interface coordination.

Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the CSA/SMP and electrical and instrumentation disciplines such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment and grounding, and DCS systems.

Establish a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Area Engineer, including agreement on SMPE/electrical and instrumentation engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management.

Responsible for quantity take‑off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting for SMP/electrical and instrumentation discipline.

Direct the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services.

Review material receiving reports from project deliverables and the subcontractor to assure delivery of correct electrical and instrumentation materials.

Coordinate and monitor interfaces for SMP/electrical and instrumentation data exchange to support the construction automation plan and project controls program requirements at the jobsite.

Develop and manage the SMP/electrical and instrumentation construction quality program.

Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan and support construction schedules.

Plan and recommend SMPE/electrical and instrumentation procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations comply with engineering design and specifications.

System start‑up, turnover, client walk‑down and permit authority inspection coordination.

Temporary works design and interface coordination with subcontractor and project engineering.

Prepare construction drawings and sketches.

Lead preparation of construction drawings, schedules and design of temporary construction facilities, and ensure preparation of “as built” drawings and other job plans.

Initiate requisitions for field purchases.

Prepare quantity take‑offs of field purchased material and equipment.

Education And Experience Requirements

Required bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Construction site experience.

Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work.

Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes acquired through specialized instruction or practical experience.

Effective communication skills for motivating teams and presenting plans clearly.

Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Good knowledge of engineering systems, startup and operations, and prior commissioning experience.

Broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards relevant to startup, maintenance, operations, or testing.

Team collaboration, leadership skills, and ability to provide technical guidance for testing, startup, and operations.

Understanding of project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication.

Experience managing technical services subcontracts.

Experience on an LNG construction site, especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Understanding of Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures.

Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) such as Setroute, Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.

Strong supervision experience, including ability to lead and manage change.

Experience in the testing or maintenance of LNG systems, including inverters, motors, medium voltage switchgear, transformers, and power distribution systems with calibration of associated protective relaying.

Additional Information Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including extensive walking on a construction site in high heat and humidity, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated or uneven surfaces, and working in confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. The candidate must be able to enter and exit the project site and use appropriate PPE such as harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.
