Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations following ACR requirements. This includes screening and diagnostic mammography as well as other radiologic guided procedures such as stereotactic biopsy and breast localization performed within the Breast Center.
Responsibilities
Performs diagnostic and screening mammographic examinations on adult, adolescent and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
Performs mammographic imaging for breast needle localization procedures and stereotactic procedures as trained.
Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs and operates equipment for specific procedures.
Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN number and ensures that images are correctly marked as to the breast side and that all images have technologist's initials.
Assists with quality control procedures and documentation of phantom image, repeat analysis, calibration test, geometry calibration, diagnostic review workstation QC, compression test, visual machine checks, view box calibration test, artifact test, CNR/SNR testing and reviewing condition, as delegated by the leadership.
Assists with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, biopsy recommendations and follow-up on positive biopsy reports.
Documents procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State and FDA.
Ensures proper use of the Faxitron system.
Documents in EMR (EPIC) any pertinent information regarding patients.
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). Communicates with patients, parents or caregivers at their level.
All equipment must be cleaned with hospital disinfectant as per manufacturer instructions.
Understands and verbalizes proper shielding protocol as per institutional policy.
Understands and verbalizes images wisely.
Ensures rooms are stocked and kept in an orderly manner.
Ensures proper labeling of specimen images.
Tracks the location of the patient in Epic during the Breast Center visit.
Ensures appropriate procedures are begun and ended in a timely manner.
Recognizes equipment technical errors and initiates corrective action.
Performs other duties as directed by supervisory personnel including training of new students/personnel.
Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent program.
Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
24 continuing education credits every 2 years; 5 credits per year for mammography.
Must meet requirements for the National Registry (ARRT) and pass the examination.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Licenses and Certifications Required
Diagnostic Radiography License.
Registered Technologist in Radiology & Mammography.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Working Conditions
Lifts a minimum of 15 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 200 lbs. and stands for the duration of the shift.
Compensation and Benefits Minimum hourly rate of $45.94. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market‑competitive total rewards package. The base compensation may differ from the posted rate based on non‑discriminatory factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget or grant funding. Some positions may be eligible for performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions, and for shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend work.
In addition to full‑time and part‑time (20+ hours/week) positions, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
