Our client is seeking an experienced

Controller

to lead their corporate accounting function within a growing healthcare organization based in Durham, NC. This role oversees day‑to‑day accounting operations across multiple entities, ensures GAAP and healthcare regulatory compliance, and supports broader finance initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, hands‑on leadership experience, and a solid understanding of healthcare financial operations, revenue models, and multi‑entity environments. The position reports directly to the CFO and partners closely with Finance, RCM, Operations, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities Corporate Controllership & Technical Accounting

Oversee preparation and accuracy of consolidated financial statements for all subsidiaries.

Maintain general ledgers, subledgers, and trial balances across entities in compliance with US GAAP.

Lead research and documentation of complex accounting topics (new standards, revenue recognition, leases, M&A, new lines of service).

Support onboarding and setup of new legal entities and associated accounting structures.

Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close, driving accuracy and reduced close timelines.

Support financial reporting and provide key insights for senior leadership in partnership with FP&A.

Oversee revenue accounting related to patient services, payer reimbursement, and government programs.

Review contracts, billing data, and reimbursement schedules to ensure accurate revenue recognition.

Internal Controls, Compliance & Process Improvement

Build and maintain internal controls aligned with healthcare requirements (HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid).

Implement process improvements across accounting operations to strengthen accuracy and efficiency.

Partner with billing, coding, and RCM teams to ensure alignment between operational activity and financial results.

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.

Collaborate with cross‑functional partners across Finance, RCM, Operations, IT, and other departments.

Audit & External Reporting

Serve as primary contact for external auditors during reviews and annual audits.

Provide documentation, resolve issues, and ensure an efficient audit process across all entities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

Healthcare industry experience required.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a technical accounting or controllership role.

Strong understanding of US GAAP and multi‑entity accounting.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks).

Preferred Qualifications

CPA/CMA or Master’s degree strongly preferred.

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within PE‑backed healthcare.

Experience with RCM, healthcare revenue models, or EMRs (eCW, Athena, Epic).

Exposure to SOX or SEC environments.

Location: Durham, NC

Salary range: $111,129 – $222,260
