Description The Physics Division of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Michigan Medicine is recruiting a medical physicist for a clinical physics faculty position.

The role focuses on community practice network outreach and support across ten statewide clinics, providing standardization, quality assurance, remote and in‑person coverage, accreditation preparation, project organization, and consulting on equipment and clinical issues.

The division also organizes regular group meetings, retreats, and educational seminars and maintains a database of equipment, software and staffing at all sites.

Job Summary The position offers 90 % clinical effort and 10 % academic time (varying by candidate).

Clinical duties include community outreach, comprehensive physics quality assurance, brachytherapy and special procedures coverage, IGRT, SBRT, and treatment planning.

Academic duties encompass clinical research, program development, teaching in medical physics and radiation oncology residency programs, and service to the department and university through committees and projects.

Responsibilities The selected applicant will be a contributor and leader within the community practice outreach team, providing didactic and practical teaching and training for multiple learners.

The role will also involve ongoing and new clinical development initiatives, including online adaptive therapy, quantitative imaging for treatment planning and response modeling, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence for continuous learning, novel planning optimization, and safety and quality improvements.

Required Qualifications

Master’s or Ph.D. from a CAMPEP‑accredited medical physics program OR a Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics, Medical Physics or a related field with completion of a CAMPEP‑approved residency training program in Radiation Oncology Physics.

Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Radiology.

Evidence of clinical competence and didactic teaching experience.

Desired Qualifications

Significant aptitude for using treatment delivery, calibration and quality assurance equipment; anatomic and physiological imaging devices; computerized treatment planning; patient management and safety.

Authorized Medical Physicist (AMP) status (desirable for HDR and IVBT program support).

Modes of Work Positions eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work are at the discretion of the hiring department.

Work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change.
