Industrial Finishing Assistant

The Industrial/Production Finishing Assistant will support our paint and powder coating operations in a NADCAP‑certified precision sheet metal manufacturing facility. This position plays a key role in preparing, masking, racking, inspecting, and supporting parts throughout the finishing process to ensure compliance with aerospace and industry standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety‑conscious, and eager to learn in a fast‑paced production environment. Key Responsibilities

Production Preparation & Support

Assist in prepping, cleaning, masking, and racking parts prior to paint, powder coating, or phosphate conversion. Support part flow through finishing processes, including phosphate, paint, and powder, based on scheduling priorities. Safely handle metal parts and materials according to process requirements and quality standards.

Quality Control & Inspection

Perform visual inspections of pre‑ and post‑finished parts to ensure proper surface preparation, masking accuracy, and coating coverage. Identify and report any imperfections, contamination, or coating defects. Ensure all parts meet NADCAP, AS9100, and customer specifications.

Phosphate Line Operations

Support phosphate pretreatment operations including part loading, chemical rinsing, drying, and unloading. Follow established work instructions and chemical handling procedures. Assist in testing, monitoring, and maintaining phosphate solution quality under supervision. Ensure proper labeling, staging, and traceability of chemically treated parts.

Maintenance & Housekeeping

Clean and maintain tools, phosphate tanks, paint booths, racks, and other finishing equipment. Properly dispose of waste materials and handle hazardous materials in accordance with company policy and environmental regulations.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with painters, powder coaters, inspectors, and production team to meet daily production goals. Assist in other finishing or production support tasks as directed. Participate in cross‑training and departmental improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education and Experience – High school diploma or GED preferred. 1+ year of manufacturing or production experience preferred. Prior experience in paint, powder coating, or chemical conversion processes is a plus. Familiarity with NADCAP‑certified or AS9100 environments is a plus. Skills & Competencies – Strong attention to detail and quality control awareness. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions precisely. Basic knowledge of paint/powder coat materials and masking techniques preferred. Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a production environment. Physical Requirements & Work Environment – Work performed in a manufacturing environment exposed to chemicals, coatings, fumes, and noise. Must stand for extended periods, bend, reach, lift up to 40 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks. Use of PPE (gloves, safety glasses, respirators) required. Schedule – Shift 1: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday. Shift 2: 2:30 PM – 10:45 PM, Monday–Friday. Flexibility may be required based on production needs. Compensation – Hourly Rate $18–$22 per hour.
