What is my role?
The Ink Specialist manages all aspects of ink mixing and color matching for screen print and heat transfer production. This includes mixing custom formulas, maintaining inventory, and ensuring colors meet brand and customer standards.
What You'll Do
Ink Management:
• Mix inks to precise color specifications, including Pantone matches and custom formulas
• Maintain accurate records of ink formulations for repeat use and quality control
• Manage ink inventory, including labeling, shelf-life tracking, and restocking
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of inks and related materials
• Collaborate with prepress to interpret color callouts and verify ink requirements
• Support production by preparing inks ahead of scheduled print runs
• Troubleshoot ink performance issues during production (e.g., drying, coverage, adhesion)
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the ink mixing and storage areas
• Follow all safety procedures related to chemical handling and personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Assist with test prints and sampling as needed to confirm color accuracy
• Communicate effectively with production team members to ensure smooth workflow
What You'll Need
Requirements
• 5 or more years of experience as an Ink Technician in a screen print or heat transfer production environment
• Strong knowledge of ink systems, color theory, and Pantone color matching
• Hands-on experience mixing custom ink formulas with accuracy and consistency
• Familiarity with the handling, storage, and disposal of plastisol, and specialty inks
• Excellent organizational skills for maintaining formulas, labeling, and inventory tracking
• High attention to detail to ensure color accuracy and print quality across production runs
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-team collaboration with prepress and production departments
• Ability to troubleshoot ink-related issues (e.g., viscosity, opacity, curing) in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable using scales, mixing tools, and other ink room equipment
• Commitment to safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of chemical materials
Experience/Qualifications
• Proven experience in screen printing operations and ink management.
• Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume production with precision.
• Adept at Pantone color matching and ink formulation.
• Familiarity with screen frames, mesh, and press setup.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Good organizational practices and time management skills.
