Travel Unit Description – Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Type of Care: The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit provides

comprehensive critical care to post-cardiac surgery and cardiac medical patients

, as well as select neuro-critical cases. This high-acuity unit manages patients recovering from

CABG, valve repair/replacement, cardiac catheterization, and mechanical circulatory support devices

. Nurses are trained in

advanced hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and titration of vasoactive infusions

. Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with

cardiac, post-surgical, and neuro-critical conditions

. Common cases include

post-CABG, valve replacement, myocardial infarction, heart failure, IABP support, and stroke management

. Shift & Schedule: Night shift:

3x12 hours (18:45–07:15). Block scheduling available. Rotating weekends and holidays as needed. Float required

to affiliated Cleveland Clinic facilities (Martin North, South, and Tradition—within 20 miles). Primary Responsibilities: Deliver

high-acuity cardiovascular and neuro-critical care

to patients requiring invasive monitoring and advanced life support. Manage

Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)

,

Swan-Ganz catheters

, and central/arterial lines. Titrate

cardiac and vasoactive drips

, including sedation and paralytics, in compliance with physician orders. Provide

ventilator and respiratory management

, including BiPAP, CPAP, and ABG interpretation. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to code situations. Perform

comprehensive patient assessments

, maintain documentation in Epic EMR, and communicate changes in patient condition promptly. Collaborate with intensivists, cardiologists, respiratory therapy, and the multidisciplinary team for patient-centered care. Uphold infection control practices, including PPE and isolation precautions. Skills & Procedures: Cardiac Monitoring:

Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, hemodynamic trend analysis. Cardiovascular Procedures:

Post-cardiac surgery care (not direct from OR), IABP operation, Swan-Ganz/Pulmonary Artery pressure monitoring. IV/Line Management:

Arterial and central line care, blood product administration. Medication Management:

Continuous IV sedation, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration. Respiratory Support:

Ventilator management, suctioning (ETT/NT), CPAP/BiPAP, ABG interpretation. Emergency Response:

Code and rapid response participation. Professional Skills:

Isolation precautions, patient safety, and interdepartmental communication. Certifications Required: BLS (AHA) ACLS (AHA) NIHSS

(must be obtained prior to start) Experience Requirements: Minimum

1 year of recent CVICU or ICU experience
