## Job Description# Senior Lead Consultant (Databricks Platform Architect)* Serve as the technical lead for project teams, ensuring high-quality execution and alignment with best practices.* Listen and seek to understand the client and meet their needs, providing consultative guidance.* Stay attuned to the future needs of the client and work with internal resources to identify opportunities.* Build and foster relationships with clients, stakeholders, and technical communities, representing Apex Systems at industry events.* Stay current with technological trends, proactively identifying innovative solutions to improve client outcomes.* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment with business goals and success metrics.* Contribute to the evaluation and recruitment of technical talent through professional networking and technical screenings.* Work with business and technology leaders to shape the enterprise data strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals.* Act as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams — driving collaboration between business units, engineering, and data science communities.* Conduct stakeholder workshops to elicit requirements, assess readiness, and define onboarding strategies for Databricks adoption.* Communicate complex technical concepts in business-friendly terms to leadership and domain teams.* Mentor engineering teams and champion platform best practices across the organization.* Serve as the lead architect for Databricks platform design and implementation across a federated data mesh environment.* Define the target-state architecture, including workspace design, cluster policies, automation, and governance frameworks.* Partner with domain teams to understand business and technical requirements, current pain points, and opportunities for Databricks adoption.* Develop strategies to balance flexibility and standardization across federated domains, enabling autonomy while maintaining governance and compliance.* Lead platform scalability, cost optimization, and FinOps considerations for shared infrastructure.* Establish best practices for long-term platform sustainability, operational excellence, and DevOps alignment.* Implement and configure Databricks workspaces, clusters, and job workflows.* Design and enforce cluster management policies, workspace automation, and access governance via Unity Catalog.* Develop automation for provisioning and configuration using Terraform or other Infrastructure-as[1]Code (IaC) tools.* Collaborate with internal IT, cloud, and data engineering teams to ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems.* Support design thinking around platform-as-a-product principles — building reusable capabilities and minimizing cognitive load for end users.* Provide architectural guidance on data mesh-aligned architectures, including medallion/lakehouse patterns.* 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform architecture, or infrastructure engineering.* 4+ years of hands-on experience designing and managing Databricks workspaces, cluster policies, and automation frameworks.* Strong understanding of data mesh principles and domain-oriented architecture for federated data environments.* Proficiency in Python, SQL, or equivalent scripting for automation and orchestration.* Experience implementing governance, lineage, and access control using Databricks Unity Catalog.* Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD integration, and platform monitoring.* Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse technical and business stakeholders.* Strong consulting, documentation, and presentation skills; ability to influence without authority.* Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC tools for Databricks resource provisioning preferred.* Databricks or major cloud platform certifications (i.e. Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional, AWS Solutions Architect) preferred.* Exposure to AI/ML platform enablement or MLOps concepts preferred.* Competitive Salary* Health, Dental and Vision Insurance* Health Savings Accounts (HSA) with Employer Contribution* Flexible Spending Accounts* Long and Short-Term Disability* Life Insurance* Voluntary Benefits* Employee Assistance Program* Paid Parental Leave* Wellness Incentives* Vacation and Holiday Pay* 401(k) Retirement Plan with Employer Match* Employee Stock Purchase* Training and Advancement Opportunities* Tuition Reimbursement* Birthdays Off* Philanthropic Opportunities* Referral Program* Partial Gym Membership Paid* Team Building Events* Discount Programs*Apex Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
