Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) of Kennedy-King College is an academic job training center for Construction Technology careers established in 1968. Named after U.S. Congressman William L. Dawson, DTI is recognized for providing top quality job training and construction industry career development. DTI provides students with intensive and comprehensive industry validated training in the construction trade and utility industries. DTI is committed to preparing students to compete in these industries by offering relevant competency-based instruction that leads to unionized apprenticeships and other relevant trade and utility worker opportunities.
Kennedy-King College is seeking a part-time Vocational Lecturer- Construction Management. Reporting to the Dean of Dawson Technical Institute (DTI), the Vocational Lecturer - Construction Management is preparing and delivering hands-on, industry-relevant instruction aligned with NCCER standards and CCC curriculum.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead in-person lectures and labs
Grade assignments and meet with students for academic support
Maintain student progress records
Designing project-based assignments that mirror real construction project lifecycles
Mentoring students toward internship or apprenticeship placements
Collaborating with union and contractor partners on site visits or guest lectures
Integrating software tools and plan review into hands-on labs
Contributing to a newly approved Construction Engineering & Management AAS degree
Delivering engaging, workforce-aligned instruction with minimal ramp-up
Integrating construction project simulations and scheduling software into coursework
Supporting students with diverse academic and professional backgrounds
QUALIFICATIONS:
Deep knowledge of construction management principles, including estimating, project scheduling, blueprint reading, and safety compliance
Experience using project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project)
Strong presentation and communication skills
Ability to engage nontraditional learners and apply real-world examples
Industry experience managing commercial or residential construction projects
Understanding of equity-focused teaching and supporting diverse learners.
Ability to chaperone possible visits to offsite learning locations or employer partners
The compensation for this position is $52/hour.
