Thrivent is seeking a Sr. Engineer to join the Mainframe and Production Control team. The

Senior IT Architect

is a trusted advisor and thought leader who translates business objectives into technology solutions, influencing strategy and advising senior leaders. The role involves defining architecture for large projects, driving standards, and supporting modernization efforts. Job Duties and Responsibilities General Provide expertise in mainframe engineering and middleware (CICS, DB2, MQ, IMS). Require COBOL and Java experience on Z/OS Linux. Guide infrastructure managed service providers on upgrades and new functionalities. Act as an architectural intermediary between engineers and platforms. Assist with root cause analysis and application improvements. Lead proof of concepts for modernization initiatives like DevOps on Mainframe. Identify solutions enabling business strategies and mitigate risks. Mentor and guide team members, facilitate communication, and influence technology direction. Strategy and Alignment Define enterprise architecture specifications and standards. Ensure architectural consistency and leverage common approaches across departments. Communication and Collaboration Manage external architecture requests and educate on enterprise architecture. Lead enterprise architectural efforts and provide guidance to project architects. Architecture Development and Implementation Analyze industry trends and derive architecture requirements. Develop architecture approaches with business and engineering teams. Ensure standards are enacted across projects and review deliverables for quality. Qualifications Experience with Service Oriented Architecture, EAI, Application Servers, mainframe, and databases. Leadership experience on large-scale projects. 10+ years with mainframe middleware (CICS, DB2, MQ). 5+ years of core z/OS experience and COBOL development. Experience with APIs and infrastructure solutions for mainframe data. Critical Factors Thought leadership, strategic thinking, and business insight. Strong communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills. Ability to work in ambiguity and lead innovative initiatives. Salary range is $136,721 - $184,976 annually, with comprehensive benefits.
