Job Description
Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking candidates to fill full-time Roadway Engineer positions for our St. Louis, MO; Springfield, IL; or Kansas City, MO offices. Our new team members will be expected to advance Hanson's technical roadway abilities with local municipalities, MoDOT, and IDOT for a broad variety of transportation engineering projects.
Position Profile
This person is expected to work as part of multidisciplinary design teams to plan and execute transportation projects for clients including local governments and state departments of transportation. Projects may include reconstruction and rehabilitation of rural highways and roads, urban highways and streets, bridge replacements, slide repairs, culverts, storm sewers, intersections, sidewalks, multiuse paths, rail grade crossings, signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plans. The role requires providing direction to junior staff, working on various projects, coordinating with multiple managers, and supporting projects from planning through construction. Opportunities may include work with other states, construction observation, and resident engineering duties.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Prepare engineering design/analysis, construction plans, and contract documents.
Assist with public involvement activities and attend meetings.
Assist with grant applications and project proposals.
Collaborate with senior staff and other disciplines.
Mentor engineering support staff.
Perform calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
Visit project sites to review conditions and develop solutions.
Support advertising and bidding processes.
Develop and maintain client relationships.
Perform construction observation and management.
Contribute to project pursuits and scope/fee development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Technical Skills : Experience with roadway design, Microstation, and roadway design software such as Geopak, OpenRoads Designer, or Civil 3D. Willingness to learn agency permit requirements, funding types, utility coordination, and software tools like OpenRoads Designer. Experience with Corridor Modeling, Autoturn, or Guidesign is desirable.
Soft Skills : Mentoring junior staff, building client relationships, strong communication, participation in professional organizations, and project pursuit capabilities.
Education/Experience : Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, 5+ years of total experience, 3+ years related to road design, Missouri P.E. or eligibility to obtain within 6 months.
Working at Hanson

Occasional out-of-town travel.
Willingness to work overtime when needed.

Salary range: $100,000 - $150,000
