Field Technician (Small Boat/Aerial Operations)
to join research teams conducting vessel-, small boat-, and aerial-based surveys for NOAAs ProTech Fisheries 2.0 program. Employment is contingent upon contract award by NOAA. Responsibilities
Participate in small boat-, shore-, and aerial-based surveys collecting biological, ecological, and environmental data. Operate, support, and maintain small vessels and gear, ensuring compliance with NOAA and USCG standards. Assist in aquatic/marine animal surveys, including handling, tag deployment, sampling, and operating collection gear. Support deployment and operation of drones/UAS for data collection if trained and certified. Collect and log environmental and survey data; maintain field notes, photos, and digital records per QA/QC standards. Perform equipment prep, troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration; ensure safety and proper gear storage. Follow safety procedures, participate in safety briefings, and assist in emergency responses. Support logistics, including supplies, travel, housing, and communication with team leads. Contribute to report writing and project documentation. Qualifications
Required
Associates or Bachelors degree in biology, marine science, environmental science, or related field. Experience with small boat operations, animal handling, and environmental data collection. Willingness and fitness for extended field assignments at sea or remote areas. Attention to detail, safety commitment, and adherence to protocols. Meet NOAA/government medical, safety, and security requirements. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and adapt to changing conditions. Preferred
Certifications in vessel operation (e.g., NOAA/USCG MOCC), drone piloting (FAA Part 107), or advanced sampling techniques. Experience with drones/UAS, sensors, or lab equipment. Previous work with NOAA, BOEM, or similar agencies. Work Environment
Frequent travel, irregular hours, deployments at sea or remote sites. Physical stamina and safety compliance are essential. About Lynker
