ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Supervisor: Director of Music Hours: Approximately 12-15, 48 weeks per year Salary: $28,000 About the Position:
The Associate Director of Music is a member of the staff and ministry team of First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, ministering to music ministry participants and the congregation through a varied and exciting program of musical offerings each week. The Associate Director of Music serves as primary accompanist for the Adult, Youth and Children’s Choirs, shares keyboard (piano/organ) support for worship services with the Director of Music and occasionally leads choral rehearsals independently. Qualifications • Academic training in music performance for the keyboard (piano and organ). • Basic skills in choral conducting and rehearsal leadership. • Demonstrated proficiency in: - playing a variety of keyboard repertoire for piano and organ - leading reformed worship from the keyboard - accompanying choirs for rehearsal (parts) and following a director - leading effective rehearsals • Good organizational, communication, and leadership skills. • Excellent relationship skills, especially in being able to work effectively with church staff, music volunteers and congregation. Essential Functions and Responsibilities • Collaborate with the music staff to participate in, prepare and program music for each scheduled worship service, including all Sundays, holidays, and other special services: • Collaborate with the Director of Music and ministers in worship planning. • Collaborate with music staff to schedule choirs, soloists, and instrumentalists. • Communicate music planned well in advance of the service to the Director of Music. • Work with the music staff to develop plans which will promote the goals and growing needs of the music ministry. • Accompany Thursday evening Adult Choir rehearsals (September- June) • Accompany Youth and Children’s Choir for Sunday morning performances, occasionally attending their rehearsals. • Accompany occasional Saturday morning choir rehearsals (3-4 annually). • Share the keyboard (piano/organ) support for worship services (9:00 am – contemporary; 10:30 am traditional) with the Director of Music. • Participate in the Concert Series for the Christmas Concert and Spring Choral Concerts. • Lead ensemble rehearsals if the Director of Music is unavailable (5-6 times a year) • Participate in the Wednesdays @ Noon recital series or Concert Series if interested. • Work with instrumentalist and soloists as needed. • Integrate into the “church family.” • Be willing to work with children and youth and be friendly and engaging with them.
