Product Development Engineer I

The Product Development Engineer I will support the entire product development lifecycle, from prototyping and testing to commercialization, while collaborating with suppliers and senior engineers to innovate and enhance product offerings. Responsibilities: • Coordinate and execute technical testing of softgoods materials and products. • Test and validate new designs in collaboration with Contract Manufacturers (CMs). • Participate in supplier meetings and track/coordinate technical development tasks and milestones. • Assist in the design, development, and launch of consumer goods. • Provide project execution to ensure successful transition to commercialization and launch. • Maintain knowledge of market demands, user needs, and regulatory requirements specific to the consumer products industry. • Utilize scientific principles including statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), problem-solving, and root cause analysis. • Support Senior Engineers in executing product innovation aligned with strategic business plans and goals. • Employ innovative approaches based on available scientific knowledge to projects. • Coordinate and document knowledge, and report R&D work for each project. • Summarize data and present findings for analysis and recommendations. • Support the protection of technologies, processes, materials, and products via appropriate use of patents and trade secrets. • Stay updated on industry trends and competitor products, using insights to guide product engineering decisions. Qualifications: Required: • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field • 1–3 years of experience in product development, ideally in consumer goods or softgoods • Hands-on experience with materials testing, validation, and analysis • Familiarity with statistical tools, root cause analysis, and Design of Experiments (DOE) • Strong collaboration skills with suppliers and cross-functional teams • Clear and organized communicator with strong documentation abilities • Curiosity and drive for innovation and continuous improvement • Awareness of market trends, user needs, and regulatory considerations Company: The Honest Company is a consumer products company that offers baby, personal care, and beauty products.
