Job Summary:
The Senior Logistics Specialist – Truck position will be responsible for managing and optimizing truck logistics operations to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. This role requires close collaboration with Supply Chain Planning and Customer Service teams to align transportation activities with customer demand and service expectations. The ideal candidate will have experience with SAP and transportation management systems, and a strong understanding of truckload, Less-than-truckload (LTL), dry bulk pneumatic trucking, and marine cargo drayage operations. This role will also have direct interaction with warehouse and packaging operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Truck Logistics Management
Coordinate daily truck shipments for domestic and cross-border deliveries.
Track and trace shipments to ensure on-time delivery; proactively communicate delays or issues.
Collaborate with carriers to resolve service disruptions and optimize routing.
Manage carrier performance and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
Coordinate with SC Planning and Customer Service regarding shipments, re-deliveries, and special handling requests as needed.
Monitor and manage freight claims, including investigation and resolution.
Ensure proper documentation and billing for all truck shipments.
Validate truck shipment invoices in collaboration with Logistics Payables.
Warehouse / Packaging Management
Coordinate with Supply Chain Planning and Rail Operations teams on warehouse and packaging operations.
Communicate with Warehouse / Packaging vendors to facilitate operations and resolve any issues.
Validate warehouse / packaging invoices in collaboration with Logistics Payables.
Work closely with Supply Chain Planning to align transportation schedules with production and inventory plans.
Partner with Customer Service to ensure customer delivery requirements are met and proactively communicate any service issues.
Support customer complaint investigations related to delivery performance and contribute to corrective actions.
Data Management & Analysis
Maintain accurate shipment and carrier data in SAP and other logistics systems.
Assist with freight invoice resolution and discrepancies.
Generate and analyze logistics performance reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance service reliability and reduce transportation costs.
Participate in logistics projects and initiatives to support business growth and operational excellence.
Provide back-up support to the broader Logistics Operations team as needed. To be cross-trained with rail logistics team as backup.
Qualifications:
Highly Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in truck logistics or transportation operations.
Proficiency in SAP and transportation management systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of DOT regulations and industry best practices.
Preferred Skills:
Experience managing relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and freight brokers.
Familiarity with full truckload (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), dry bulk pneumatic trucking, warehouse / packaging, and marine cargo drayage operations.
