Overview
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison's public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR operates Meadowood Neighborhood Center in collaboration with the City of Madison on Madison's southwest side, in the Meadowood Shopping Center. The purpose of the Meadowood Neighborhood Center is to provide a safe, supervised place for youth during afterschool and evening hours, for neighbors to socialize, and space for MSCR programs such as arts, fitness and much more.
Job Description & Duties:
• Coordinate the purchase of supplies with the Center Assistant Director. • Coordinate MSCR lunch and snack orders with MMSD Food Service. • Coordinate transportation needs to the Center Assistant Director. • Assist Center Assistant Director with determining staff assignments, work schedules, facilitating meetings and staff training. • Supervise and evaluate seasonal program staff. • Observe and coach staff and volunteers. • Provide ongoing support for program staff which includes problem solving staff and participant issues. • Support program staff and Center Assistant Director in processing behaviors with students and creating behavior plans for the program and individual students. • Maintain necessary records of enrollment and attendance. • Meet regularly with Center Assistant Director and other Meadowood Neighborhood Center staff as needed. • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Hours/week:
18.5 hours/week during the school year. 35-40 hours/week during the nine weeks of summer.
Work hours:
Academic School Year Monday: 2:30pm - 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 4pm -8pm Friday: 4pm - 6:30pm Summer M-F 11am - 7:30pm
Payrate:
19.00 - 21.10 /hour
Minimum Qualifications:
• Two years related experience in program planning and supervision, including personnel management; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. • Strong organizational skills and recreation program planning knowledge, ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, general computer knowledge and proven leadership abilities. • Ability to build positive mentoring relationships with students and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
• CPR, AED and First Aid Certification within 3 months of employment. (MSCR provides free training for staff.) • Bilingual - Spanish/Hmong/ASL.
