We are seeking a talented Principal Software Engineer to join our Global Technology Data & Artificial Intelligence (D&AI) organization. You will guide and influence multiple engineering teams to deliver scalable data and analytics solutions, implement new technologies, and participate in solution design and architecture discussions. WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON You will build and deliver scalable data and analytics solutions focused on Nike Direct, Supply Chain, and Commercial spaces. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and integrating new technologies, evolving data and analytics products, and supporting all aspects of data and software engineering—from ingestion and transformation to consumption. You will also design and build test-driven frameworks, automated workflows, and libraries at scale, and participate in architecture and design discussions for processing and storing high-volume data sets. WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH As a Principal Software Engineer in D&AI, you will collaborate with engineers, architects, product leaders, data scientists, and data governance partners to design and deliver scalable, reliable platforms powering Nike’s critical digital and data products. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, you will work closely with stakeholders across product, architecture, AI/ML, and governance to support experiences from Nike.com and the Nike App to supply chain, retail, and marketing systems—impacting millions worldwide. Your work will unify data and AI capabilities across domains, enabling use cases from business intelligence to advanced machine learning, while ensuring governance compliance and fostering collaboration across global teams and leadership levels. WHAT YOU BRING Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience. 10+ years experience as a software engineer, data engineer, or architect working with distributed data management systems, including data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud solutions. 5+ years experience with Hadoop and Big Data frameworks (Spark, Hive, NiFi, Spark-Streaming, Flink, etc.). Proficiency with modern data technologies such as Spark, SQL, NoSQL, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java, with expertise in data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline optimization. Experience with source control (GitHub), CI/CD, DevOps, and distributed systems. Experience with workflow scheduling tools like Airflow. Proficiency in provisioning RESTful APIs for real-time data consumption. Solid understanding of data modeling, data structures, and algorithms, supporting AI/ML and analytics. Ability to define and operationalize data quality metrics, SLAs, and observability in complex pipelines. Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a history of mentoring and fostering technical excellence. Track record of automating workflows to eliminate inefficiencies and manual toil. Passion for innovation and keeping up with industry trends and emerging technologies.
