Description Responsible for planning and conducting design work on building structures requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and application of engineering techniques with increasing difficulty. Experience with procedures and criteria for various project types, including but not limited to concrete, steel, masonry, and wood. Works closely with project team internally and externally to deliver projects. Introduction to mentoring junior staff.

Requirements Essential Duties and Responsibilities Technical

Performs engineering design tasks with limited guidance for up to level 2 projects.

Performs engineering design tasks with guidance for level 3 projects and above.

Conducts research.

Builds and debugs engineering models.

Reviews and understands data outputs from engineering models.

Formulates and solves problems with guidance.

Prepares drawings and visual aids with limited guidance.

Performs construction activities with limited guidance for up to level 2 projects.

Assists in construction activities with guidance for level 3 projects and above.

Project Management

Reviews weekly project staffing reports.

Guides Structural Designers with assigned tasks and communicates expectations.

Understands project scope, fee structure, and contractual obligations.

Communicates with project teams and clients appropriately.

Manages personal time to meet project deadlines and communicates conflicts.

Performs QA/QC for assigned tasks.

Alerts Senior Engineer of potential project issues.

Understands client service expectations and key financial indicators.

Participates in project meetings and manages up to Level II projects.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Recommends operational improvements.

Develops engineering and drawing SOPs.

Participates in hiring and training.

Conducts presentations internally and externally.

Builds and maintains client relationships.

Contributes to the organization’s strategic goals.

Identifies opportunities for additional services.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. and/or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering or 8 years of related experience.

3+ years in structural engineering.

Working towards or obtaining CA PE License.

LEED AP encouraged.

Leadership and collaborative skills.

Stays current with industry trends.

Proficient with Enercalc, Bluebeam, Risa 3D, Google Suite, Deltek VP; familiar with Risa Floor and Connection.

Proficient with MS Office.

Membership in industry organizations encouraged.

Community service involvement encouraged.

Willingness to travel as needed.

Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Salary Range: depending on experience
