Funko Overview: Welcome to the Funko-verse, a world built on imagination. Funko is a purveyor of pop culture and licensed-focused collectibles located in Everett, WA. Funko holds licenses to create thousands of characters across many franchises; Funko’s Pop! Vinyl is a leading stylized vinyl collectible worldwide. The Sr. Product Developer is responsible for turning concepts into retail-ready Funko collectibles, managing projects from initial conception through art direction and production in our factories. The Sr. Product Developer collaborates with external licensors (e.g., LucasArts, Marvel, Netflix), factories, and Sales teams to ensure products meet required specifications and milestones. We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented team player who can drive initiatives to completion.
Manage multiple products from ideation through design determination, development, costing, material specifications, and production (maintains targeted monthly capacity with assigned workloads).
Work independently with little to no supervision.
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and design resources to spec new products.
Own progress on product timelines for multiple assigned product groups and ensure ship dates are met, including coordinating with the art team to deliver creative work on time and to licensor approvals, and ensuring factories receive deliverables and ship items on time.
Work cross-functionally to ensure all department stakeholders' needs are met (sales, design, legal, procurement, and compliance) with review checkpoints before production to meet aesthetic, functional/material specifications, licensor standards, safety, reliability, and cost targets.
Create project timelines and hold kickoff meetings for products within their license or category and maintain dates with licensors and factories.
Work with internal stakeholders to establish and update processes for individual categories or product types as needed.
Create and provide initial product tech packs to factories on time, including all relevant instructions, material specifications, BOM, EOQ, and required timelines.
Apply knowledge of product costing and identify elements/constructions that impact cost.
Participate in factory product costing negotiations to ensure products meet targets and margins.
Possess in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing process across product categories and adapt processes to advance manufacturing techniques, improving performance and appearance.
Review product samples and packaging for assigned categories and provide detailed feedback to factories and stakeholders to ensure accuracy of production quality, approved design, product names, descriptions, images, stickers, and legal lines.
Review testing documents to ensure products are compliant; work with QA & Testing to resolve issues and guide the factory.
Assist other product developers and the team with questions or day-to-day challenges.
Partner with design and development personnel to ensure manufacturability and alignment with cost and quality objectives.
Create and maintain a knowledge base; stay informed about licensor requirements and relationships; lead regular licensor calls and ensure licensors receive updated line lists as needed.
Develop and communicate initial production schedules with internal teams, licensors, and factories; advise of changes in line lists, timelines, or product specifications.
Lead product kick-off meetings with internal teams and licensors regarding new development, planned line lists, exclusive content, and product adjustments.
Identify and resolve issues in development and handle escalations.
Establish and maintain rapport with licensors to ensure products receive necessary approvals and meet specifications prior to shipment.
Collaborate with Licensing and Creative teams to introduce new form factors to licensors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Product Development, Merchandising, Engineering (or similar) preferred; or 8–10 years of related experience in product development/creation in the consumer goods industry (toys, apparel, footwear, etc.) – fast fashion; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to lead, coach, and train junior product developers.
Proficient and in-depth experience in managing product timelines and product creation.
In-depth knowledge of costing, BOM creation, tech pack creation, design translation, product and material experience.
Hands-on experience with the product creation lifecycle in the consumer goods industry.
Strong attention to detail and organization to track product changes through development and production.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with all levels of the organization and with external partners, vendors, and licensors.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Proven track record of product ownership and keeping project timelines on schedule; able to communicate when deadlines are at risk.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve problems quickly and autonomously.
Experience working with Quality Assurance and Testing teams to set testing direction and requirements up front to ensure product integrity is built into new products.
Flexibility in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
Understanding of product development material specifications and how our products are produced.
Salary Information The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $90,000 - $110,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range based on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
