Overview
The Product Developer is responsible for turning concepts into Funko collectibles on retail shelves. The Product Developer will manage projects from initial conception through our art team and into production in our factories. During this process, the Product Developer will collaborate with external licensors (e.g., Lucas Arts, Marvel, Netflix), factories and sales teams to ensure products are made to required specifications and milestones and manufacturing/delivery dates are met. We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented team player who excels at cross-team collaboration. Responsibilities
Owns establishing product development timelines and progress for all items assigned to product groups; ensure ship dates are met or escalate to a manager if issues arise before a delay occurs (typically ~30 new items per month) with minimal supervision Communicate and coordinate with design, licensing, sourcing, factories, and internal stakeholders to drive products forward through production Lead recurring licensor PD calls and ensure licensors receive updated line lists as needed Work with the art team to ensure creative work is delivered on time and accurately according to licensor approvals; collect and own initial design specifications and partner with sourcing to meet target costs within budget Create and provide initial product tech packs to factories on time, including all relevant product instructions, material specifications, BOM, EOQ, and timelines to meet delivery schedules Communicate directly with the factory on any questions regarding technical specs Understand product costing and which elements/constructions can change costing Understand production limitations in assigned product categories Review and comment on 3D drawings from the factory and creative teams to ensure samples closely match initial design Review and approve all product samples including packaging, providing detailed feedback to ensure accuracy across production quality, design, naming, descriptions, images, stickers, and legal lines Establish and maintain rapport with licensors; ensure products receive necessary approvals and match specifications prior to shipment Coach and support Associate Product Developers to ensure on-time ship dates, risk management, and proper approval before factory departure Partner with Licensing and Creative teams to introduce new form factors to licensors Lead product kick-off meetings with internal teams and licensed partners, reviewing planned line lists, exclusive content, and product adjustments Ensure accurate entry of product information into the Product Development tracking system as development progresses Collaborate with the quality team to communicate potential risks and solutions, facilitate product testing with compliance groups and factories, and document results in licensor websites and internal systems Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry
Bachelor’s degree in Product Development, Merchandising, Engineering (or similar) preferred; or 4–5 years related experience in product development/creation in the consumer goods industry (toys, apparel, footwear, etc.) or equivalent Understanding of and experience with managing product timelines and product creation Experience with product tracking tools and software Experience with costing, BOM creation, tech pack creation, design translation, and product/material experience Understanding of the product creation lifecycle in the consumer goods industry Strong attention to detail and organization to manage changes through development and production Strong communication skills (verbal and written) across all organizational levels and with external partners, vendors, and licensors Proficient in Microsoft Office Track record of owning products and keeping timelines on schedule, with the ability to alert teams when deadlines are at risk Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability What Funko Offers
