Staff Accountant
SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting core accounting operations and contributing to the accuracy and timeliness of the monthly financial close process. Key responsibilities include daily processing of cash deposits, preparation of financial statements, completion of balance sheet account reconciliations, and participation in the analysis and reporting of financial results. This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with accounting standards and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process cash receipts and reconcile bank activity: Ensure accurate and timely recording of cash receipts. Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to maintain financial accuracy and integrity. Invoice generation and payment application: Prepare and issue customer invoices in accordance with contractual terms. Accurately apply payments to outstanding customer balances, ensuring proper account maintenance. Journal entry preparation and account reconciliations: Create and post journal entries in compliance with GAAP and internal controls. Reconcile various balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data. Financial review and variance analysis: Analyze the financials and explain variances. Provide insights to support financial planning and decision-making. Cross-departmental collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to resolve reconciling items and address accounting-related issues. Foster effective communication to support timely and accurate financial reporting. Audit preparation and support: Assist in the coordination and execution of annual financial audits. Compile supporting documentation and respond to auditor inquiries to ensure a smooth audit process. Special projects and process improvements: Participate in or lead special projects, including process enhancements, system implementations, and ad hoc financial analysis. Contribute to initiatives that improve efficiency and accuracy across accounting functions.
SKILLS:
Excellent communication and writing skills to interact with varying levels of management, financial professionals, and professional staff. Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to plan strategically and develop solutions. Ability to prioritize and manage work processes/projects efficiently and effectively to meet set deadlines. Knowledge of general ledger accounting, practices, and principles. Intermediate-level Excel knowledge, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and lookups (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP). Prior experience with NetSuite or similar accounting systems is preferred; ability to quickly adapt to new financial software and tools.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related work experience Previous securities or related industry experience preferred but not required. Minimum of 2-4 years’ general accounting work experience required, with experience in a high-paced environment.
